Topic: The SAFE Ports Act – 10 + 2 Equals
More than Just 12
The SAFE Ports Act of 2006 created several new Homeland Security Initiatives
that will dramatically impact the global supply chain, specifically
for the maritime industry. One of the most significant impacts will
be the requirement for Advance Data Submission (the secure filing,
or 10+2 filing) which will alter the way goods are shipped to the U.S.
An in-depth discussion on this issue will be presented (i.e. current
status of 10+2, how it will work, and what we can expect).

Dominican Customs
wants CSI at two Ports
The Dominican Customs Agency (DGA) told local reporters that it is working
to get the United States Authorities to certify its ports at East Haina
and Puerto Plata as Container Security Initiative ports to give the country
three certified terminals. DGA Director Miguel Cocco reported that five
United States Customs Service specialists came to the country to visit
the ports to obtain information on the administrative organization and
operations in the East Haina terminal. He told the U.S. delegation that
the DGA will do what is necessary to get the 2 ports certified in the
shortest possible time. The two ports, together with the one at Caucedo,
move most of the country’s freight traffic. Cocco said “Customs
is committed to acquire the X-ray machines within 3 months, so that East
Haina Port can complete the requirements of the CSI program”. www.floridashipper.com
